EMDR THERAPY

What Are The Benefits of EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a somatic psychotherapy - working with the body through a series of eye-movements, bilateral sounds and sensations.   The aim of the therapy is to desensitise the person from the emotional overwhelm, unwanted emotions or unwanted physical sensations triggered from trauma and life events.

Sometimes a person may have anxiety, anger or fears yet they can't understand or remember where these emotions may have started.  It is possible to work "content free" in such cases, whereby Angela will work with the emotion or bodily sensations (such as feelings of panic) using EMDR and the benefits of working this way are just as pronounced as those people who know where their trauma originated.

Angela has noticed that talking therapy is good for understanding oneself and the trauma we might find ourselves in or healing from, but some victims of trauma often have longer lasting somatic symptoms which seem out of their control, such as physical sensations of hot and cold rushing along the spine, or pain in their chest or stomach, or perhaps brain fog where they simply cannot think straight.

EMDR sessions of 60 minutes are attended once a week.  Some issues respond more rapidly to EMDR treatment and take around 6 weeks of EMDR therapy.  Some take a little longer and may take 6 months.  However, with all issues worked on, there should be an alleviation of symptoms with each session.

EMDR Therapy can assist with the following conditions and symptoms:
